Consumer reports detailed reliability ratings

Main Post:

Hi, I'm looking for detailed reliability ratings for new cars. I know the brand ratings, and I tried the bookstore for books and for the cars magazine. But I cannot find the detailed ratings with the circles filled based on reliability. Its been 10 years since I've bought a car and I'm lost without this information!! Does anyone have the info or know where i can find it?

Top Comment: I saw the car guide last year on store shelves around Jan - Feb , I was car shopping then. Many cars in my range, low end, had insufficient data. Might check the library, or Half Price Books.

What're folks opinions on Consumer Reports?

Main Post:

Wondering what everyone's opinion on CR is these days? It was my dad's bible throughout my upbringing, and has served me right in mattress and small kitchen appliance purchases in the past. Looking to buy a washer and dryer soon and wondering whether it's still a good source.

Top Comment: On the products where I have knowledge, I have found them to have very questionable conclusions. This makes me doubt them on the products where I have no knowledge.

Never received California solar consumer protection guide before contract

Main Post:

Hey all,

I’m in Southern California. I signed a contract and now need to get out of it. Company is not communicating, they pulled the wrong address for permits, and there is no install date or loan documents signed. Nothing is on my house or even ordered from what I understand. There are no clauses for cancellations in the contract except the initial 3 days. I emailed the company and they said that I’d need to pay their costs for engineering and the city fees to cancel - around 1500.

However, a friend who has worked in solar told me that since they never gave me the CPUC (consumer protection guide) to sign before my contract that it wasn’t valid to begin with. Is this true? He’s telling me I should report them to the license board since every installer is required by law to let me read and sign it before a contract. This company not only didn’t send it but never gave me time to review it before wanting me to sign a contract.

Wondering if that’s the case and if so should I report them and not pay them anything? I was unaware I needed to sign this but after looking at it it seems to be the law.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, CPUC needs to be signed first. If a client does not sign it then they will have to resign everything all over again. CPUC is there to explain to you what to look for and it advises you to get three quotes minimum. What company is this ?
